Co-location dominates discussion at City Council meeting
Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York came to City Council on Tuesday
night to talk about crime statistics, but the conversation veered
into a discussion on possibly co-locating his department with
the Allen County Sheriff's Department.
Allen County Sheriff Jim Herman, who is in his last year in
office, has wanted to get his department out of the rundown Kidder
Building on Lima Road for several years. The Fort Wayne Police
Department is leasing office space on Creighton Avenue. City
officials have been looking at buying the Renaissance Building
downtown once the library moves out at the end of this year,
although any such move would require City Council approval. In
the meantime, the city, which also leases space from the county
in the City-County Building, re-signed its lease at the end of
2005 but left the door open to renegotiate it. |
